The Nagaland Cabinet has decided not to grant permission to the Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra, the anti-cow slaughter program scheduled to be conducted in Kohima on September 28.

Chumoukedima, Nagaland, September 11 (HBTV): The Nagaland Cabinet has decided not to grant permission to the Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra, the anti-cow slaughter program scheduled to be conducted in Kohima on September 28.

The state government, led by the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party-Bharatiya Janata Party, cited the protections under Article 371-A of the Indian Constitution. This article ensures the protection of religious and social practices of the Naga people, as well as their customary laws and procedures.

During a press conference at the Secretariat in Kohima, government spokespersons CL John and Temjen Imna Along addressed the Cabinet’s decision regarding the proposed Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra.

John noted that the Cabinet had considered the opposition from various civil society organizations, political parties, and other groups. In light of these concerns and to maintain public order, the Cabinet concluded that the “Yatra” would not be permitted.

The Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra, a campaign for ban on cow slaughter, was scheduled to reach Kohima on September 28 to hold a program. However, the proposed program was met with strong opposition from various political parties, organizations, and the public.
